Hello, Chief of Staff!

Gateway X is looking for a Chief of Staff to join our team.  The Chief of Staff will be the first full time hire and will partner closely with the Founder/CEO to build GX from the ground up.  This person will own 1) strategy and systems, 2) communication internally & externally and 3) new projects/areas of focus.  Initial areas of focus will include setting up core infrastructure for GX and its companies, building out initial model & deck for GX and its companies, creating the system for idea generation, pipeline and potential M&A and specific support to the initial companies we are launching.  

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee strategic initiatives - Support CEO in identifying focus, defining success metrics and regularly reviewing and iterating within Gateway’s companies. Rolling up your sleeves to drive major parts of the business forward.

  • Internal and external communications - Organize and optimize communication throughout the organization; this ranges from preparing for board meeting to ghostwriting an email from the CEO

  • Proactively analyzing data and framing decisions - Building bird’s eye view across the company with appropriate KPIs and connect the dots in ways others can’t; help drive business planning/OKRs

  • Defining strategic priorities – Thought partner to CEO on long-term strategy, both within Gateway X and its companies. Develop strong understanding competition, market trends and dynamics within the DTC industry

  • Telling it like it is – Serve as honest broker for the CEO, sharing direct and candid feedback to ensure the company lives its values and up to its potential

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university with a quantitative major

  • 2-5 years experience across startups, quantitative analysis, performance marketing, tech, financial services, consulting, or growth industries – another chief of staff or similar role preferred but not required

  • Excel and Powerpoint guru (e.g. vlookup, pivot tables, formatting) and comfortable with data analysis

  • Project-management: organized, disciplined, systemic and relentless in getting things done

  • Able to juggle and manage multiple work streams effectively

  • Impeccable communication: you can distill and convey information in a compelling manner 

  • Builder: blank canvases excite you; you enjoy the process of making something and iterating

  • Entrepreneurial mindset: thrive in a place where change, ambiguity and action-orientation are the norm

  • Business savvy: you get the market, trends, competitive forces, content and technology

  • Empathy: you act as a sounding board and can anticipate, decipher, absorb the needs of the broader team

  • Relationships: able to build trust quickly with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
